Graduating Ultra-Poor Orphan Families

Summary

This project is aiming to support ultra-poor orphan families on an upward trajectory out of poverty with children being cared for, well-nourished and educated in Blantyre, Malawi.

Problem

IR Malawi is currently implementing an Orphan Child Welfare Program (OCWP) sponsoring more than 745 orphaned children in Blantyre District. Most of the targeted families do not have reliable and resilient income. This and other factors result in families’ limited income of less than $1.9 a day per person. Due to the limited income, orphan families remain vulnerable to immediately access nutritious food that results in exposing their orphaned children at malnutrition risk.
